Private tuition
Private tuition follows the ancient Eastern tradition of the one to one relationship between guru and student to customise a practice that meets the needs of the individual. Private sessions are appropriate for meditation, antenatal and postnatal yoga, parents & baby yoga, yoga therapy, beginners and individuals who would like personal instruction. Please see the information listed below.
The cost is £35 per hour at Martindale Natural Health, Lombard Street, Newark or £25 per hour in your home.
*Meditation
Meditation is the direct experience of your own mind. For most of our waking lives we experience the thoughts, emotions and sensations that fill our minds, but this ever-changing stream of distractions is no more the mind than the water in a glass is the glass. In meditation we learn to distance ourselves from this flow rather than identify with it. We become the observer instead of participant. As the practice develops, the stream becomes a trickle and sometimes ceases altogether and a calm, clear awareness replaces the distractions, tranquility replaces confusion. We realise that the mind is still present even when thoughts are not and we discover the bliss of simply being.
*Yoga for pregnancy
Yoga postures, breathing exercises and meditation will keep you physically healthy, emotionally well-balanced during pregnancy, labour, birth and the post-natal recovery period and will strengthen the bond between you and baby.
The physical benefits of yoga include improved strength, muscle tone, posture and balance; suppleness and flexibility in the entire musculo-skeletal system; the stimulation of glands which control hormone production;
massaged internal organs, increased blood flow and improved circulation; excellent breath and mind control and improved sleep. The breathing exercises and meditation promote a general feeling of
well being, calm and contentedness, along with a positive outlook on life.
If you have been practising yoga for some time, or are a regular exerciser with no history of miscarriage, it is in most cases safe to practice from the first trimester. However, if you have not practiced yoga before, do not exercise, or have a history of miscarriage, you should wait until the second trimester to begin practising yoga.
*Yoga for parents & baby
Practising yoga with your baby builds a profound bond and it boosts yours and baby's vitality, mobility, physical health and emotional well-being.
*Yoga therapy
Yoga therapy sessions are for people who have special needs or an
emotional or physical condition/illness that prevents them from
attending a mainstream class. Therapy includes specifically targeted
postures, breath work, meditation, diet and Ayurveda and costs
£35 per hour either at Martindale House, Lombard Street,
Newark or £25 in your home.
*Beginners
Sometimes beginners feel a little overwhelmed when they first start practicing yoga. Instead of diving in at the deep end you may wish to take private 90-minute sessions to learn the basics, so you can join a class feeling confident and able to participate.
The cost is £25 per person per session or £40 for two people per session. You can take as many private sessions as you need. They are recommended for beginners but not compulsory.
Aqua Yoga
Aqua Yoga is a unique combination of the therapeutic and buoyant nature of water with the energising and harmonizing effect of classical yoga postures exercises adapted to water.
The water provides resistance for the muscles to work against and bodies feel weightless when supported with buoyant equipment, so movements that might not be possible on dry land can be achieved without strain.
Aqua yoga is excellent for people who are recovering from illness or injury, are pregnant, overweight or just want a refreshing and unique way to tone up. No previous experience of yoga is necessary to benefit from these exercises and it can be practiced by swimmers and non-swimmers alike.
Thursday 10.30am-11.30am at LA Fitness (membership required).

Equipment
Your yoga mat is more than a piece of rubber to stop you slipping. It
is your sacred space and your map to measure your alignment and guide
your practice. I have a limited number of spare mats to borrow but I
recommend you practice with your own. You may purchase your new mat
from me for £10 or a mat and matching bag for £15.
Blocks and belts are also available to borrow.
Wear comfortable loose clothing. Trousers should be no longer than
ankle length. And be prepared to practice in bare feet - unless there
is a specific reason why you can't do this.
You will also need to bring a towel, water to drink and a blanket for
final relaxation. You may also find chalk useful for gripping the mat
better when things start to heat up
Health
and Safety
I will ask health and safety questions in class to ensure I teach the
correct modifications where appropriate and to keep our practice safe
and enjoyable. Please inform me before you practice if you have an illness, condition or personal problem so I can adapt your practice accordingly. All information you disclose will be kept in the strictest confidence.
If you have a medical condition that requires emergency medication (e.g. GTN for angina, Ventolin for asthma, insulin pen for diabetes), please bring it to your yoga class.
It is imperative that I know my students so I know how to help you get
the best from your yoga practice.
Adjustments
If corrections to alignment need to be made or if I see that a student
would benefit from deepening a particular pose, I will make hands-on
adjustments. If you really object to being touched you must tell me
